Mynydd y Ddraig (Dragon Mountain) is based on Devil’s Bridge, the upper terminus of the Vale of Rheidol narrow gauge railway, in mid-Wales. The layout is set in the mid-1970s, when the line was the last steam operation on British Rail, with the locomotives and stock in rail blue livery and carrying the ‘arrows of indecision’.
The baseboard is an Ikea Lack shelf, 110cm x 26cm, with a simple ply display box surround. Track is Peco OO9, the points operated via wire-in-tube through the front fascia and control is analogue DC.
Scenic items are a mix of kit- and scratch-built items, Woodland Scenics and 3D printed details. Locos are kit-built or 3D printed bodies on modified N gauge RTR chassis, whilst the coaching stock is scratch-built using self-designed plasticard 8j00 bodies cut on a Silhouette cutter, on Dundas bogies. The P-way stock is from a variety of kit sources.
